Telelesson Title:  Organizing a Corporation and Paying a Dividends(12)

Total Time: One Semester

Lesson Overview:  Students will develop knowledge of terms relating to corporate accounting, journalize transactions for starting a corporation, calculate dividends and journalize declaring and payment of dividends.

Standards Based Goals:  This unit is designed to correlate with the national business standards for accounting as outlined by the Mid-Continental Research Laboratory.( http://www.mcrel.org.)  Content of the following will relate to Accounting Standards as listed below.

Student Objectives:

        Students will define accounting terms related to corporate accounting.
        Students will identify and apply accounting concepts.
        Students will prepare a balance sheet for a newly formed corporation.
        Students will calculate dividends for a corporation.
        Students will journalize transactions declaring and paying dividends.

Prerequisite Skills:  Acquired Accounting I Skills, e-mail, word capabilities.

Time Sequence Sequence of Activities Notes
Chapter 12 will consist of approximately 1 week of instruction and demonstration of skills. Presentation of terms, concepts and demonstration of transactions with question and answer time.

Students will do critical thinking through case study situations.  These may be open-ended scenarios and need to involve proper technical terminology usage.

Students will do problems with applicable transactions.

 

On-line Chapter summaries and terminology will be available for participants to use as note pads as presentation is given also the assignments will be listed on the Chapter web page..

Powerpoint will be utilized for presentation..

Document camera will be utilized extensively.

Case Studies involving dialogues between sites.

Special Considerations:  Hand-outs are available for students whether taking distance courses or not.  Other considerations will be made as necessary to meet the individual needs of students.

Assessment: Article review for this chapter using my media links page or financial links page as well as other sources(10 points)Participation in case studies(5 points per case), complete assigned problems accurately( 1 point per line for jounalizing).  Complete Study Guides and Problem Tests for this Chapter(Tests for each chapter are worth 100 points).
