Textbook:  Century 21 Accounting, South-Western Publishing 6th Edition by Ross, Hanson, Gilbertson & Lehman. Copyright 1995 as well as the workbook will be needed to perform problems.


Elective Course

One-half unit of credit(2nd semester of  school year)

What will be covered?

You will learn the language of Business!!  This course will provide you with a more advanced  understanding of corporate accounting, cost accounting, and management accounting,.

Terminology is very important.

There may be some small automated projects if time allows.

Upon successful completion of this course you will understand the accounting concepts and practices presented. You will develop basic skills involving corporate accounting, financial analysis involving ratios, breakeven points as well as inventory control.  You will also develop skills involving cost accounting practices including direct materials, indirect materials, overhead, work in process and finished products.

Activities:  You will actively perform accounting practices and if time allows complete a  business simulation that may involve the types of accounting discussed .  This can either be automated or manual.

Grading:        The handbook grading scale will be 90-100 - A, 80-89 - B, 70-79 - C, 60-69 - D, below 60 - F..

Evaluation:  Tests will consist of auditing tests where you will retrieve information in your simulations as well as specific problem and objective tests that have true/false, multiple choice, matching.  Demonstration of computer skills will be needed for the automated session and will be evaluated also.

Prerequisite:  Accounting I.

Presentation Alterations: If you do not understand the material it is your responsibility to make the instructor aware of difficulties.  Every attempt will be made to adapt materials to adequately address learning styles to insure success.

Course Policies: You will be responsible for following the guidelines in your individual school policies in regard to conduct, attendance, homework.  The grading scale above will be followed.
