UNAPPROVED MINUTES OF OFFICIAL PROCEEDINGS

REGULAR MEETING – MARCH 13, 2023 – 7:30 P.M. – CLASSROOM “A” – CORSICA-STICKNEY HIGH SCHOOL

 

The Regular Meeting of the Corsica-Stickney Board of Education was held on Monday, March 13, 2023 – 7:30 p.m. in Classroom “A” of Corsica-Stickney High School. 

 

Members Present: Jeremy Wright, President; Chad Clites, Roxann Gerlach, Darci Neugebauer, Micheal Plooster, Shannon Tolsma, and Jennifer Van Gorp

Officers Present:  Scott Muckey, Superintendent; Brittney Eide, Secondary Principal; Ferra Kemp, Elementary Principal and Angie Feenstra, Business Manager.

 

Pastor Scott Nichols gave a short prayer prior to the start of the meeting.

 

President Wright called the meeting to order at 7:31 p.m. and a quorum was established. The Pledge of Allegiance preceded the approval of the meeting agenda. 

 

Open Forum/Public Discussion

No one was present for public discussion.

 

Approve Agenda

Motion by Van Gorp second by Plooster to approve the agenda with additions as presented. Motion carried.

 

Conflict of Interest Disclosure

There were no conflicts of interest to disclose.

 

Approval of Minutes

Motion by Clites second by Neugebauer to approve the minutes from the February 13, 2023 Regular Board Meeting. Motion carried.

 

Approval of Financial Statement

Motion by Plooster second by Gerlach to approve the February 2023 Financial Statement. Motion carried.

Approval of CORE Coop Minutes

Motion by Neugebauer second by Gerlach to approve the minutes of the March 8, 2023 CORE Coop meeting. Motion carried.

 

Secure Audit Firm

Motion by Van Gorp second by Plooster to authorize the business manager to secure Schoenfish & Co. for the FY2023 audit. Motion carried.

No updates were made to the ARP-ESSER Plan. The plan can be found on the school webpage.

 

Resignations

Motion by Clites second by Gerlach to approve the resignation from Jason Broughton, Assistant Girls Basketball Coach; Lorisa Broughton, Head Girls Basketball Coach; LaNae Fuerst, FACS Teacher; and Jenna Menning, 7th/8th Grade Volleyball Coach. Motion carried. The board would like to thank them all for all they have done for our district.

 

Approve Contracts

Motion by Van Gorp second by Neugebauer to approve the contracts of the following staff: Allyson Anthony,  Jacquelin Boyle, Jason Broughton, Lorisa Broughton, Peggy Casavan, Mica Foxley, Wade Gall, Kristine Gillette, Kylee Hongslo, Brian Jorgensen, Jessica Juhnke, Cassity Kerner, Michelle Koch, Mandy Lewis, Jenna Menning, Sheryl Muckey, Miranda Paulson, Nicole Reichert, Katie Strand, Christina Strid, Ron Swier, Mike Tuschen, and LaDawn Wolbrink. Motion carried.

 

Principal Reports

Principal Eide reported that the NCRC testing is done and Smarter Balance testing will be starting next week. Golf and track will be starting in the next couple weeks and the 3-Act Play has been cast and practice for that will be starting soon as well.

 

Principal Kemp stated that Smarter Balance will be starting right away in April. Running Club has started again with another large group of kids participating. Elementary Spring Concert is only a couple weeks away as well as the 5-8 Vocal Contest. 

 

Weight Room Equipment

Head coaches from all sports have been putting together a list of equipment they would like to have in the new weight room. After comparing prices from a couple different places and availabilities of items, motion by Gerlach second by Tolsma, to get the weight equipment ordered so it can hopefully get in place when the facility is ready. The school has applied for a couple of grants for some equipment but have not heard if we were awarded any of them yet. Motion carried.

 

Others

Other items discussed were health insurance updates, track timing system, and football helmets. Building project discussion included asbestos quotes, landscaping, old chemical disposal, and auction information.

 

Executive Session – SDCL 1-25-2 (1) Personnel Matter

At 9:16 p.m., motion by Tolsma second by Gerlach to go into executive session to discuss personnel matter pursuant to SDCL 1-25-2(1). Motion carried. Declared out of executive session at 9:59 p.m. by President Wright.

 

Employee Agreement/Part-time Contract Issuance

Motion by Plooster second by Van Gorp to issue employee agreements for the 2023-2024 school year to the following classified staff: Luke Bamberg, Adam Bormann, Rod Bormann, Cindy Bosma, Dan Bosma, Kristie Burke, Margaret Casavan, Brenda Dykstra, Ronald Heidinger, Cindy Koster, Connie Matzner, Doris Metzger, Janet Moser, Phyllis Muilenburg, Al Munneke, Rocky Nelson, Jodie Nichols, Gregg Olawsky, Phyllis Pennings, Johanna Pfiester, Chris Plamp, Dennis Plooster, Elaine Plooster, Micheal Plooster, Samantha Prien, Hannah Reimnitz, Wilton Rodriquez, Larry Schoenrock, Sherry Schumacher, Terra Spaans, Shannon Tolsma, Jean Van Genderen, Jason Wolbrink. There being no further business, at 10:00 p.m., motion by Clites second by Van Gorp to adjourn. Motion carried. The next regular meeting date will be Monday, April 10, 2023 at 7:30 p.m. in the Study Hall Room of the Corsica-Stickney Elementary School.
