UNAPPROVED MINUTES OF OFFICIAL PROCEEDINGS

REGULAR MEETING – MARCH 14, 2022 – 7:30 P.M. – STUDY HALL ROOM – CORSICA-STICKNEY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

 

The Regular Meeting of the Corsica-Stickney Board of Education was held on Monday, March 14, 2022 – 7:30 p.m. in the Study Hall room of Corsica-Stickney Elementary School. 

 

Members Present: Jeremy Wright, President; Chad Clites, Roxann Gerlach, Darci Neugebauer, Micheal Plooster, Shannon Tolsma, and Jennifer Van Gorp

Officers Present:  Scott Muckey, Superintendent; Brittney Eide, Secondary Principal; Ferra Kemp, Elementary Principal and Angie Feenstra, Business Manager.

 

A time of silent prayer was had prior to the start of the meeting.

 

President Wright called the meeting to order at 7:33 p.m. and a quorum was established. The Pledge of Allegiance preceded the approval of the meeting agenda. 

 

Open Forum/Public Discussion

A hearing was held for the Algebra I Waiver. No other discussions.

 

Approve Agenda

Motion by Plooster second by Gerlach to approve the agenda with additions as presented. Motion carried.

 

Conflict of Interest Disclosure

There were no conflicts of interest to disclose.

 

Approval of Minutes

Motion by Tolsma second by Van Gorp to approve the minutes from the February 14, 2022 Regular Board Meeting. Motion carried.

 

Approval of Financial Statement

Motion by Van Gorp second by Tolsma to approve the February 2022 Financial Statement. Motion carried.

 

February 2022 Custodial Report

Motion by Neugebauer second by Clites to approve the February 2022 Custodial Report with a beginning balance of $35,880.81, disbursements of $18,285.25, receipts of $12,755.69, for an ending balance of $30,351.25. Motion carried. 

 

Approval of Bills

Motion by Van Gorp second by Gerlach to approve the March 2022 listing of bills. Motion carried.

 

Approval of CORE Coop Minutes

Motion by Plooster second by Tolsma to approve the minutes of the March 7, 2022 CORE Coop meeting. Motion carried.

 

Secure Audit Firm

Motion by Van Gorp second by Neugebauer to authorize the business manager to secure Schoenfish & Co. for the FY2022 audit. Motion carried.

 

Resignations

Motion by Van Gorp second by Clites to approve the resignation from Jason Broughton, head football coach. Motion carried.

The board would like to thank Mr. Broughton for the many years of dedication to the football team.

 

Approve Waiver for Algebra I (SDCL 24:43:08)

Motion by Tolsma second by Plooster to approve the Algebra I Waiver Request to the Department of Education to continue to offer Algebra I to 8th graders for high school credit. Motion carried.

 

School Opening Guide-Return to Learn Plan Comments/Updates

No changes will be made to the School Opening Guide-Return to Learn Plan for the time being. The plan can be found on the school webpage.

 

ARP-ESSER Plan Comments/Updates

No updates were made to the ARP-ESSER Plan. The plan can be found on the school webpage.

 

Surplus Property

Motion by Gerlach second by Plooster to accept the bids on the following items: Band Saw – Marv Clites - $203.00; Drill Press – Douglas Electric - $251.11. Motion carried.

No bids were received for the van or the lathe.

 

Approve Contracts

Motion by Van Gorp second by Neugebauer to approve the contracts of the following staff: Heather Andera, Jacquelin Boyle, Jason Broughton, Lorisa Broughton, Kristie Clark, LaNae Fuerst, Wade Gall, Kristine Gillette, Kylee Hongslo, Stacey Hosman, Brian Jorgensen, Jessica Juhnke, Michelle Koch, Mandy Lewis, Jenna Menning, Sheryl Muckey, Ashley Olsen, Miranda Paulson, Nicole Reichert, Christina Strid, Allyson Waldner, and LaDawn Wolbrink. Motion carried.

 

Principal Reports

Principal Kemp announced that Mrs. Nikki Reichert, 1st grade teacher, was named the Corsica-Stickney School District Teacher of the Year! She also reported that grades 5-8 are busy preparing for the vocal contest to be held in Armour on April 1.

 

Principal Eide has been facilitating a book study for staff members since the start of the year that is about complete. The girls basketball team finished with a 3rd place finish at the State B tournament. Track and golf will be starting soon. The junior high/high school spring concert will be held March 28 and Prom will be on April 1.

 

Others

In other updates, there will be some new alignments next year for sports and building permits have been approved in both towns for the school projects.

 

Executive Session – SDCL 1-25-2 (1) Personnel Matter

At 8:29 p.m., motion by Tolsma second by Neugebauer to go into executive session to discuss personnel matter pursuant to SDCL 1-25-2(1). Motion carried. Declared out of executive session at 9:38 p.m. by President Wright.

 

Employee Agreement/Part-time Contract Issuance

Motion by Tolsma second by Plooster to issue employee agreements for the 2022-2023 school year to the following classified staff: Rodney Bormann, Cindy Bosma, Kristie Burke, Margaret Casavan, Brenda Dykstra, Ronald Heidinger, Cindy Koster, Connie Matzner, Doris Metzger, Janet Moser, Phyllis Muilenburg, Al Munneke, Jodie Nichols, Phyllis Pennings, Johanna Pfiester, Dennis Plooster, Elaine Plooster, Bonny Prien, Samantha Prien, Hannah Reimnitz, Wilton Rodriquez, Sherry Schumacher, Terra Spaans, Angie Teel, Shannon Tolsma, and Jean Van Genderen. Motion carried.

 

Motion by Clites second by Gerlach to issue contracts for the 2022-2023 school year to the following part-time certified staff: Margaret Casavan, David Guericke, Ronald Swier, and Mike Tuschen. Motion carried.

 

Adjourn

There being no further business, at 9:40 p.m., motion by Tolsma second by Plooster to adjourn.  Motion carried. The next regular meeting date will be Monday, April 11, 2022 at 7:30 p.m. in Classroom “A” of the Corsica-Stickney High School.
