REGULAR
MEETING – FEBRUARY 14, 2022 – 7:30 P.M. – CLASSROOM “A” – CORSICA-STICKNEY HIGH
SCHOOL
The
Regular Meeting of the Corsica-Stickney Board of Education was held on Monday,
February 14, 2022 – 7:30 p.m. in Classroom “A” of Corsica-Stickney High
School.
Members
Present: Jeremy Wright, President; Chad Clites, Roxann Gerlach, Darci
Neugebauer, Micheal Plooster, Shannon Tolsma, and Jennifer Van Gorp
Officers
Present: Scott Muckey, Superintendent; Brittney
Eide, Secondary Principal; Ferra Kemp, Elementary Principal and Angie Feenstra,
Business Manager.
A
time of silent prayer was had prior to the start of the meeting.
Morgan
Clites and Katelyn Lau, FCCLA Members, and LaNae Fuerst, FCCLA Advisor, came
and thanked the board for all their support of the program and updated them on
Region and State events.
President
Wright called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. and a quorum was established.
The Pledge of Allegiance preceded the approval of the meeting agenda.
No
presentations were made.
Motion
by Tolsma second by Van Gorp to approve the agenda with additions as presented.
Motion carried.
There
were no conflicts of interest to disclose.
Motion
by Plooster second by Gerlach to approve the minutes from the January 10, 2022
Regular Board Meeting. Motion carried.
Motion
by Plooster second by Clites to approve the January 2022 Financial Statement. Motion
carried.
Motion
by Tolsma second by Gerlach to approve the January 2022 Custodial Accounts
Report with a beginning balance of $32,602.81, disbursements of $8,324.98,
receipts of $11,602.98, for an ending balance of $35,880.81. Motion
carried.
Motion
by Van Gorp second by Tolsma to approve the February 2022 listing of
bills. Motion carried.
Motion
by Plooster second by Gerlach to approve the minutes of the February 14, 2022
Mid-Central Coop meeting. Motion carried.
Motion
by Van Gorp second by Plooster to approve the minutes of the February 10, 2022
Core Education Coop meeting. Motion carried.
Discussion
was also held on the 18-21 Grant that CORE recently received. The services for
this grant will be housed at the elementary building in Corsica. Rent will be
based on the number of rooms used.
Motion
by Clites second by Neugebauer to recognize the Corsica-Stickney Education
Association as a negotiating committee. Motion carried.
No
changes will be made to the School Opening Guide-Return to Learn Plan for the
time being. The plan can be found on the school webpage.
No
updates were made to the ARP-ESSER Plan. The plan can be found on the school webpage.
Motion
by Tolsma second by Plooster to approve the signed contracts of Scott Muckey, Brittney
Eide, Ferra Kemp, & Angela Feenstra for the 2022-2023 year. Motion carried.
Principal
Kemp reported that the elementary had two students win their divisions at the
region spelling bee.
Principal
Eide reported on the 8th grade job fair that was recently held in
Wagner. High school band and vocal contests are both going on during the month
of February. Junior High basketball is complete and regular seasons for both
boys and girls varsity basketball will be coming to end soon with post season
play soon to begin. The 6th-8th graders from
Corsica-Stickney have been selected to participate in a tobacco survey.
Motion
by Clites second by Gerlach to declare the 2001 blue van, band saw, drill press
and lathe as surplus items. Sealed bids will be accepted until March 14, 2022
at 3pm in business office for these items. Motion carried.
Building
project updates – shop students will be removing the retaining block wall when
the weather warms up, building permits will be to both towns for approval at
their March meetings, the asbestos report for Stickney campus has been updated,
we will need to get additional quotes for the asbestos removal.
Other
items discussed were Adrenaline volleyball fundraisers, Junior Jags running
club for grades 3-6, scoreboards for auxiliary gym, copy machine purchase, and
the pros and cons for at large vs voter precincts for school board elections.
Resignation
Mike
Tuschen submitted a letter of resignation for Head Boys Basketball Coach and IT
Coordinator effective the end of the school year. He would be willing to
potentially serve as a part-time business teacher. Motion by Plooster second by
Gerlach to accept his resignations from the coaching and IT Coordinator and
allow him to go to part-time effective the end of 21-22 school year. Motion
carried.
The
school board would like to thank Mr Tuschen for the many years he has served
our district in these capacities and wish him the best with his retirement
plans.
Executive Session –
SDCL 1-25-2 (1) Personnel Matter
At
9:06 p.m., motion by Tolsma second by Clites to go into executive session to
discuss personnel matter pursuant to SDCL 1-25-2(1). Motion carried. Declared
out of executive session at 10:13 p.m. by President Wright.
Motion
by Tolsma second by Neugebauer to issue contracts for the 2022-2023 school year
to the following full-time certified staff: Heather Andera, Jacquelin Boyle,
Jason Broughton, Lorisa Broughton, Kristie Clark, LaNae Fuerst, Wade Gall,
Kristine Gillette, Kylee Hongslo, Stacey Hosman, Brian Jorgensen, Jessica
Juhnke, Michelle Koch, Mandy Lewis, Jenna Menning, Sheryl Muckey, Ashley Olsen,
Miranda Paulson, Nicole Reichert, Christina Strid, Allyson Waldner, and LaDawn
Wolbrink. Motion carried.
There
being no further business, at 10:23 p.m., motion by Plooster second by Gerlach
to adjourn. Motion carried. The next regular meeting date will be Monday, March
14, 2022 at 7:30 p.m. in the study hall room of the Corsica-Stickney Elementary
School.
