REGULAR
MEETING – DECEMBER 13, 2021 – 7:30 P.M. – STUDY HALL ROOM – CORSICA-STICKNEY
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
The
Regular Meeting of the Corsica-Stickney Board of Education was held on Monday,
December 13, 2021 – 7:30 p.m. in the Study Hall room of Corsica-Stickney
Elementary School.
Members
Present: Jeremy Wright, President; Chad Clites, Roxann Gerlach, Darci
Neugebauer, Micheal Plooster, Shannon Tolsma, and Jennifer Van Gorp,
Officers
Present: Scott Muckey, Superintendent; Brittney
Eide, Secondary Principal; Ferra Kemp, Elementary Principal; and Angie
Feenstra, Business Manager.
A
time of silent prayer was held prior to the meeting.
President
Wright called the meeting to order at 7:34 p.m. and a quorum was established.
The Pledge of Allegiance preceded the approval of the meeting agenda.
There
was nobody present for open forum/public discussion.
Motion
by Van Gorp second by Plooster to approve the agenda as presented. Motion
carried.
There
were no new conflicts of interest.
Motion
by Plooster second by Gerlach to approve the minutes from the November 8, 2021
Regular Board Meeting and December 1, 2021 Special Board Meeting. Motion carried.
Motion
by Tolsma second by Neugebauer to approve the November 2021 Financial
Statement. Motion carried.
Motion
by Van Gorp second by Clites to approve the November 2021 Trust and Agency
Report with a beginning balance of $30,073.51, disbursements of $10,994.70,
receipts of $12,524.89, for an ending balance of $31,603.70. Motion
carried.
Motion
by Tolsma second by Van Gorp to approve the December 2021 listing of bills. Motion
carried.
Due
to December meeting being held after our December meeting there are no CORE
minutes to approve.
Motion
by Plooster second by Gerlach to set the school board election for May 17, 2022
and election officials will be contacted as the election date gets closer. Motion
carried.
The
Juniors and Seniors will go to Pierre to observe the legislature on January 21,
2022.
Mike
Tuschen put together a technology proposal for the 22-23 school year. Due to
availability of these products, he would like to get them ordered soon to
hopefully have them by summer. Motion by Van Gorp second by Tolsma to approve
the full IT proposal for the 22-23 school year. Motion carried.
Softball
will soon be a SDHSAA sanctioned sport. The school will not pursue putting a
team together unless students show interest.
Principal
Eide reported that the basketball seasons have started, Christmas concerts are
complete and work has started on the upcoming music contests, the 8th grade
students will be attending a career fair in Wagner, and enrollment for spring
semester dual credit courses is complete.
Principal
Kemp also reported that the Elementary Christmas Concert is done and the
students are currently participating in a food drive competition.
No
changes will be made to the School Opening Guide-Return to Learn Plan for the
time being. COVID rates in the area will be monitored and changes will be made
as necessary. The plan can be found on the school webpage.
No
updates were made to the ARP-ESSER Plan. The plan can be found on the school
webpage.
Superintendent
Muckey reported on some items to watch in the upcoming legislative session. He
also went over a rough outline of building project timelines and has recently
met with a company in regards to asbestos abatement. Discussion was held on
what to charge for use of the Corsica Elementary school for a long-term rent
situation.
At
8:35 p.m., motion by Clites second by Gerlach to go into executive session to
discuss personnel matters pursuant to SDCL 1-25-2(1). All members present voted
aye. Motion carried. Declared out of executive session at 9:18 p.m. by
President Wright.
Motion
by Van Gorp second by Plooster to accept the resignation of Dave Guericke as
K-12 Counselor effective November 16, 2021 and assess him $2,150 in liquidated
damages. Salary will be adjusted based on days worked. Motion carried.
Motion
by Tolsma second by Neugebauer to approve the contracts of Dave Guericke,
Part-time K-6 Counselor with a salary of $12,432.42 and Ron Swier, Part-time
7-12 Counselor with a salary of $13,200.00. Motion carried.
There
being no further business, at 9:23 p.m., motion by Tolsma second by Clites to
adjourn. Motion carried. The next
regular meeting date will be Monday, January 10, 2021 at 7:30 p.m. in the study
hall room of the Corsica-Stickney Elementary School.
