REGULAR
MEETING – AUGUST 9, 2021 – 7:30 P.M. – STUDY HALL ROOM – CORSICA-STICKNEY
ELEMENTARY
The
Regular Meeting of the Corsica-Stickney Board of Education was held on Monday,
August 9, 2021 – 7:30 p.m. in the Study Hall Room of Corsica-Stickney
Elementary.
Members
Present: Jeremy Wright, President; Chad Clites, Roxann Gerlach, Darci
Neugebauer, Micheal Plooster, Shannon Tolsma, and Jennifer Van Gorp,
Officers
Present: Scott Muckey, Superintendent; Brittney
Eide, Secondary Principal; Ferra Kemp, Elementary Principal and Angie Feenstra,
Business Manager.
A
moment of silent prayer was held prior to the start of the meeting.
President
Wright called the meeting to order at 7:35 p.m. and a quorum was established.
The Pledge of Allegiance preceded the approval of the meeting agenda.
No
conflicts of interest were presented.
There
was nobody present for open forum.
Motion
by Tolsma second by Gerlach to approve the agenda as presented. Motion carried.
Adult
Meal Prices
Motion
by Plooster second by Neugebauer to set the adult lunch price as $4.05/meal and
adult breakfast price as $2.20/meal for the 2021-2022 school year. Motion
carried.
Motion
by Tolsma second by Plooster to approve the July 12, 2021 Regular Board Minutes.
Motion carried.
Motion
by Tolsma second by Van Gorp to approve the July 2021 Financial Statement. Motion carried.
Motion
by Van Gorp second by Tolsma to deposit the proceeds of the Capital Outlay
Certificates for the building project at American Bank & Trust in Stickney.
Motion carried.
Motion
by Van Gorp second by Plooster to approve the July 2021 Custodial Report with a
beginning balance of $26,310.06, disbursements of $8,112.11, receipts of $5,266.84,
for an ending balance of $23,464.79. Motion carried.
Motion
by Plooster second by Clites to approve the August 2021 listing of bills.
Motion carried.
Motion
by Tolsma second by Gerlach to approve the July 15, 2021 and August 4, 2021 Minutes
of the CORE Educational Coop. Motion carried.
No
changes will be made to the School Opening Guide-Return to Learn Plan. COVID
rates in the area will be monitored and changes will be made as necessary. The
plan can be found on the school webpage.
The
state has COVID tests available to schools for free of charge. Corsica-Stickney
School has enrolled in the program to gain access to these. When available the tests would be able to be
sent home with a student for a quick result.
They can be used for asymptomatic or symptomatic scenarios Motion by
Gerlach second by Van Gorp to have Superintendent Muckey move forward to obtain
this type of test. Motion carried.
No
updates were made to the ARP-ESSER Plan. The plan can be found on the school
webpage.
Superintendent
Muckey has been working on updating and writing school policies in regards to
medical cannabis. He will continue to work with them as the state releases more
guidelines. This constituted the first
reading of these policies.
Principal
Eide reported that fall sports practices are starting this week and the fall
sports meetings will be held on Tuesday, August 10. Homecoming will be the
second week of school, August 23-27.
Principal
Kemp reported on open house currently going on. The paraprofessionals attended
a training at the CORE Coop earlier in the day.
Motion
by Tolsma second by Gerlach to vote for the Kelly Messmer in the runoff
election for the SDHSAA West River Representative. Motion carried.
Other
items discussed were the ASBSD Convention and the summer rec program inquiring
about adding another little league field on the school property. The building
committee will have a meeting later in the week so didn’t have any current
updates.
Motion
by Tolsma second by Gerlach to set the Activity Bus Driver pay as: $50 per trip
for coach or non-coach. A non-coach will receive $10/hour for sit-time while at
an activity. An activity shuttle for practice will be paid at $25/shuttle.
Motion carried.
At
9:46 p.m., motion by Tolsma second by Van Gorp to go into executive session to
discuss personnel matters pursuant to SDCL 1-25-2(1). Motion carried. Declared
out of executive session at 9:58 p.m. by President Wright.
Motion by Plooster second by Gerlach to pay out any
unused PTO at the end of each school year for classified staff. Previously
classified staff had the use it or lose it concept. Motion carried.
There
being no further business, at 10:03 p.m., motion by Tolsma second by Clites to
adjourn. Motion carried. The next regular meeting date will be Monday,
September 13, 2021 at 7:30 p.m. in Classroom “A” of the high school.
