UNAPPROVED MINUTES OF OFFICIAL PROCEEDINGS

REGULAR MEETING – FEBRUARY 8, 2021 – 7:30 P.M. – CLASSROOM “A” – CORSICA-STICKNEY HIGH SCHOOL

 

The Regular Meeting of the Corsica-Stickney Board of Education was held on Monday, February 8, 2021 – 7:30 p.m. in Classroom “A” of Corsica-Stickney High School. 

 

Members Present: Jeremy Wright, President; Chad Clites, Shannon Tolsma, Jason Lagge, Darci Neugebauer, Jennifer Van Gorp, & Micheal Plooster.

Officers Present:  Scott Muckey, Superintendent; Brittney Eide, Secondary Principal; Ferra Kemp, Elementary Principal and Angie Feenstra, Business Manager.

Guests Present: Bonny Prien, Matt Mulder, Ryan Muck, Logan Denning, Robyn Denning, Jamie Rexwinkel, & Natalie Nydam.

 

Pastor Kevin Czymbor gave a prayer prior to the start of the meeting. Taryn Rexwinkel & Camden Plooster, FCCLA Members, and LaNae Fuerst, FCCLA Advisor, came and thanked the board for all their support of the program and updated them on Region and State events.

 

President Wright called the meeting to order at 7:33 p.m. and a quorum was established. The Pledge of Allegiance preceded the approval of the meeting agenda. 

 

Open Forum/Public Discussion

No presentations were made.

 

Approve Agenda

Motion by Tolsma seconded by Van Gorp to approve the agenda with additions as presented. Motion carried.

 

Conflict of Interest Disclosure

There were no conflicts of interest to disclose.

 

Approval of Minutes

Upon review, the board corrected the minutes from the January 28, 2021 meeting to include: “The board did allow time for public comment/questions after their discussion. No action was taken.” Motion by Tolsma seconded by Neugebauer to approve the minutes from the January 11, 2021 Regular Board Meeting and January 20, 2021 and January 28, 2021 Special Board Meetings. Motion carried.

 

Approval of Financial Statement

Motion by Plooster seconded by Van Gorp to approve the January 2021 Financial Statement.  Motion carried.

 

January 2021 Custodial Accounts Report

Motion by Lagge seconded by Tolsma to approve the January 2021 Custodial Accounts Report with a beginning balance of $30,206.74, disbursements of $4,982.91, receipts of $5,452.70, for an ending balance of $30,676.53.  Motion carried. 

 

Approval of Bills

Motion by Lagge seconded by Plooster to approve the February 2021 listing of bills.  Motion carried.

 

Motion by Tolsma seconded by Van Gorp to authorize the business manager to pay the City of Corsica water bill by the due date of the 10th of each month if the due date falls before the regularly scheduled board meeting. Motion carried.

 

 

Approve Core Education Cooperative Minutes

Motion by Lagge seconded by Plooster to approve the minutes of the February 4, 2021 Core Education Coop meeting.  Motion carried.

 

CSEA Negotiation Request

Motion by Tolsma seconded by Van Gorp to recognize the Corsica-Stickney Education Association as a negotiating committee. Motion carried.

 

Resignation

A letter was received from Vickie Guenthner, resigning from her Title I/Computer Teacher at the end of the 2020-2021 school year. Motion by Clites seconded by Lagge to accept the resignation. Motion carried.

 

The school board would like to thank Vickie Guenthner for her many years of service to our school district.

 

Approve Contracts

Motion by Van Gorp seconded by Plooster to approve the signed contracts of Scott Muckey, Brittney Eide, Ferra Kemp, & Angela Feenstra for the 2021-2022 year.  Motion carried.

 

Principal Reports

Principal Kemp reported that the elementary students have been busy with Hoop Shoot contests, American Heart Association fundraiser, and getting ready for the vocal and band contests.

 

Principal Eide informed the board the One-Act Play received 3rd place at Regions. The academic festival is set for March 3rd and the high school vocal contest will be held in a virtual format.

 

Others

Superintendent Muckey has put some capital outlay funding information on the webpage. There will be a legislative cracker barrel session for District 20 at the elementary school in Stickney on February 20. School board recognition week is February 15-19 – we thank our school board members for their service. The school recently received a check from LiveTicket for $4,152.61 for our share of the advertising received. Also discussed was official pay as well as the activities mask mandate. The current mandate will stay in place as the seasons are almost over.

 

Surplus Items

Motion by Tolsma seconded by Lagge to declare the old chalkboards in the high school as surplus property with no value. They will be replaced sometime in the next couple of months with dry erase boards. Motion carried.

 

Executive Session – SDCL 1-25-2 (1) Personnel Matter

At 8:11 p.m., motion by Tolsma seconded by Van Gorp to go into executive session to discuss personnel matter pursuant to SDCL 1-25-2(1).   Motion carried.  Declared out of executive session at 9:26 p.m. by President Wright.

 

Contract Issuance

Motion by Van Gorp seconded by Plooster to issue contracts for the 2021-2022 school year to the following staff: Heather Andera, Jacquelin Boyle, Jason Broughton, Lorisa Broughton, Peggy Casavan, Kristie Clark, LaNae Fuerst, Wade Gall, Kristine Gillette, Kylee Hongslo, Stacey Hosman, Meredith Jenkins, Mark Joachim, Brian Jorgensen, Michelle Koch, Sheryl Muckey, Ashley Olsen, Miranda Paulson, Mary Payer, Nicole Reichert, Christina Strid, Michael Tuschen, Brooklyn Van Zee and Allyson Waldner. Motion carried.

 

Adjourn

There being no further business, at 10:17 p.m., motion by Plooster seconded by Van Gorp to adjourn.  Motion carried.  The next regular meeting date will be Monday, March 8, 2021 at 7:30 p.m. in the study hall room of the Corsica-Stickney Elementary School.
