MEETING – JANUARY 15, 2020 – 7:00 P.M. – STUDY HALL ROOM – CORSICA-STICKNEY
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
The
Regular Meeting of the Corsica-Stickney Board of Education was held on Wednesday,
January 15, 2020 – 7:00 p.m. in the Study Hall Room of Corsica-Stickney
Elementary School.
Members
Present: Jeremy Wright, President; Chad Clites, Shannon Tolsma, Jason Lagge,
Micheal Plooster, Darci Neugebauer
Members
Absent: Jennifer Van Gorp
Officers
Present: Scott Muckey, Superintendent; Andrew
Fergen, Secondary Principal; Ferra Kemp, Elementary Principal and Angie
Feenstra, Business Manager.
A
silent prayer was held prior to the meeting.
President
Wright called the meeting to order at 7:12 p.m. and a quorum was established.
The Pledge of Allegiance preceded the approval of the meeting agenda.
No
presentations were made.
Motion
by Lagge seconded by Plooster to approve the agenda with additions as
presented. Motion carried.
There
were no conflicts of interest.
Motion
by Lagge seconded by Clites to approve the minutes from the December 9, 2019
Regular Board Meeting. Motion carried.
Motion
by Tolsma seconded by Neugebauer to approve the December 2019 Financial
Statement. Motion carried.
Motion
by Lagge seconded by Tolsma to approve the December 2019 Trust and Agency
Report with a beginning balance of $28,839.53 disbursements of $3,086.52,
receipts of $3,488.82, for an ending balance of $29,241.83. Motion carried.
Motion
by Tolsma seconded by Plooster to approve the January 2020 listing of
bills. Motion carried.
Motion
by Clites seconded by Plooster to approve the minutes of the January 13, 2020
Mid-Central Coop meeting. Motion
carried.
Motion
by Lagge seconded by Tolsma to approve the minutes of the January 9, 2020 CORE
Educational Coop meeting. Motion
carried.
Motion
by Tolsma seconded by Plooster to approve the 2020-2021 school calendar. Motion
carried.
Motion
by Tolsma seconded by Neugebauer to accept the resignation of Dianna Hanna,
5-12 Band Instructor, immediately due to health reasons. Motion carried.
Principal
Kemp reported that the elementary was the winner of the Aurora County Turkey
challenge again this year. The elementary is looking into new reading
curriculum. Ralland Bartelt will be filling in for 5th & 6th
grade band for the remainder of the school year.
Principal
Fergen stated that the 7th-12th grades are currently
looking for new ELA curriculum as well. The robotics group is signed up for a
competition this spring. Steve Bamberg will be the 7th-12th
band sub for the remainder of the year.
Holly
Mosterd has been an instructional coach at the elementary school this year.
After receiving positive comments, the coaching will be carried over to the
high school for the 2020-2021 school year.
Motion
by Tolsma seconded by Lagge to approve the purchase of 25 Lenovo laptops from
High Plains Technology for the 3rd and 4th grade computer lab. Motion carried.
Other
items discussed were dual credit registrations and land for purchase. The board
gave the superintendent their approval to move forward with the purchase of new
football, volleyball and boys’ basketball uniforms as well as a new high jump
pit.
At
9:08 p.m., motion by Lagge seconded by Plooster to go into executive session to
discuss personnel matters pursuant to SDCL 1-25-2(1). Motion
carried. Declared out of executive session at 10:55 p.m. by
President Wright.
Motion
by Tolsma seconded by Plooster to issue contracts to Scott Muckey, Andrew
Fergen, Ferra Kemp & Angela Feenstra for the 2020-2021 school year. Motion
carried.
There
being no further business, at 11:04 p.m., motion by Tolsma seconded by Lagge to
adjourn. Motion carried. The next regular meeting date will be Monday,
February 10, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. in Classroom “A” of the Corsica-Stickney High
School.
