UNAPPROVED MINUTES OF OFFICIAL PROCEEDINGS

REGULAR MEETING – DECEMBER 9, 2019 – 7:30 P.M. – STUDY HALL ROOM – CORSICA-STICKNEY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

 

The Regular Meeting of the Corsica-Stickney Board of Education was held on Monday, December 9, 2019 – 7:30 p.m. in the Study Hall room of Corsica-Stickney Elementary School. 

 

Members Present: Jeremy Wright, President; Chad Clites, Jason Lagge, Jennifer Van Gorp, Shannon Tolsma, Micheal Plooster and Darci Neugebauer

Officers Present:  Scott Muckey, Superintendent; Andrew Fergen, Secondary Principal; Ferra Kemp, Elementary Principal; and Angie Feenstra, Business Manager.

 

Pastor Dan Ebbens gave a short prayer prior to the meeting.

 

President Wright called the meeting to order at 7:34 p.m. and a quorum was established. The Pledge of Allegiance preceded the approval of the meeting agenda.

 

Open Forum/Public Discussion

No one was present for open forum/public discussion.

 

Approve Agenda

Motion by Lagge seconded by Van Gorp to approve the agenda with additions as presented.  Motion carried.

 

Conflict of Interest Disclosure

There were no new conflicts of interest.

 

Approval of Minutes

Motion by Lagge seconded by Plooster to approve the minutes from the November 11, 2019 Regular Board Meeting. Motion carried.

 

Approval of Financial Statement

Motion by Tolsma seconded by Clites to approve the November 2019 Financial Statement.  Motion carried.

 

November 2019 Trust and Agency Report

Motion by Van Gorp seconded by Neugebauer to approve the November 2019 Trust and Agency Report with a beginning balance of $24,134.06, disbursements of $6,191.07, receipts of $10,896.54, for an ending balance of $28,839.53.  Motion carried. 

 

Approval of Bills

Motion by Tolsma seconded by Neugebauer to approve the December 2019 listing of bills.  Motion carried.

 

Approval of Mid-Central Minutes

Motion by Tolsma seconded by Lagge to approve the minutes of the November 18, 2019 Mid-Central Coop meeting.  Motion carried.

 

Approval of CORE Minutes

Motion by Van Gorp seconded by Plooster to approve the minutes of the December 5, 2019 CORE Educational Coop meetings.  Motion carried.

 

Junior Government Trip to Pierre

Motion by Tolsma seconded by Neugebauer to allow the juniors to make a trip to Pierre to attend the legislative session on January 28, 2020. Motion carried.

 

Set 2020 Election Date

Motion by Lagge seconded by Clites to set the school board election for June 16, 2020 and election officials will be contacted as the election date gets closer.  Motion carried.

 

Principal Reports

Principal Kemp informed the board that the elementary is looking at new reading curriculum for next year. The elementary students will be collecting food for the Turkey Challenge again this year. Upcoming events include Tom Roberts, an author, will be speaking to students in grades 3-8 and a group has inquired about starting Girls on the Run in our area.

 

Principal Fergen updated the board on the robotics/electronics program. Students are planning a presentation for the board in the upcoming months. The winter sports season has started and the parent meetings were held.

 

Others

World Classrooms would like to give a presentation to parents in our district about the educational trips they can offer for students. School funding, the governor’s budget address, and upcoming legislation were discussed. Jayden Engels will be student teaching under Mr. Gall during the second semester. We have a couple volunteer basketball coaches this year – Ashley Wright will be helping with the girls and Luke Bamberg with the boys. Other items discussed were the possible football class realignments as well as updating the football and boys’ basketball uniforms for next school year.

There being no further business, at 9:02 p.m., motion by Tolsma seconded by Van Gorp to adjourn.  Motion carried.  The next regular meeting date will be Monday, January 15, 2020 at 7:30 p.m. in the study hall room of the Corsica-Stickney Elementary School.
