UNAPPROVED MINUTES OF OFFICIAL PROCEEDINGS

REGULAR MEETING – NOVEMBER 11, 2013 – 7:34 PM – CLASSROOM “A”

 

The Regular Meeting of the Corsica Board of Education was held on Monday, November 11, 2013 – 7:34 p.m. in Classroom A of the high school.

 

Board Members Present:  Jeremy Wright, President; Bob Bamberg, Jason Lagge, Nicole Bamberg, Jared Gerlach.

 

Members Absent:  Vanessa Miiller and Kent DeBoer

 

Officers Present:  Vern DeGeest, Superintendent; Scott Muckey, Secondary Principal and Merna Bye, Business Manager.

 

Guest Present:  Kris VanZee, Globe Reporter

 

 President Wright called the meeting to order at 7:34 p.m. and a quorum was present.

 

Approve Agenda

Motion by Bob Bamberg seconded by Nicole Bamberg to approve the agenda with the additions as presented.  Carried.

 

Approval of Minutes

Motion by Nicole Bamberg seconded by Lagge to approve the October 14, 2013 Regular Meeting Minutes.  Carried.

 

Approval of Financial Statement

Motion by Bob Bamberg seconded by Gerlach to approve the October 2013 Financial Statement.  Carried. 

           

October 2013 Trust and Agency Report

Motion by Lagge seconded by Bob Bamberg to approve the October 2013 Trust and Agency Report with a beginning balance of $18,362.14, disbursements of $6,141.67, receipts of $1,800.89 for an ending balance of $14,021.36.  Motion carried.

 

Approval of Bills

Motion by Lagge seconded by Bob Bamberg to approve the November 2013 listing of bills as presented.  Motion carried.  

 

October 2013 Mid-Central Co-op Minutes

Motion by Bob Bamberg seconded by Lagge to approve the October 2013 Mid-Central Co-op minutes.  Carried.

 

Joint Schools Committee

Discussion was held on the Corsica/Stickney Joint Committee Meeting from October 23, 2013.  The next steps will be to begin having community meetings and start with the actual Plan Development.  The next Joint Committee Meeting will be held Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at the Stickney School.

Proposed Consolidation

After several months of Joint Committee meetings between the Corsica School District and the Stickney School District, both districts are now preparing to take the beginning formal steps for the consolidation process.  Motion by Bob Bamberg seconded by Lagge that the Corsica School District and the Stickney School District begin in November 2013 to have the first public meetings to discuss the intended consolidation of both districts for the 2015-2016 school year and that the districts administration and business managers along with each districts Joint Committee members start to prepare the data needed to proceed with the consolidation process.  Aye – Wright, Bob Bamberg, Lagge, Nicole Bamberg, Gerlach – (Absent – Miiller and DeBoer).

Motion carried.

 

Public School Exemption Certificate

Motion by Lagge to approve exemption certificate K-13 for the FY 2013-2014 school year.  Motion seconded by Nicole Bamberg and carried.

 

MCC 2012-2013 Annual Report

The 2012-2013 Mid-Central Co-op annual report was presented to the board for their review.

 

Others

A brief update was given the board on the progress of the seeding at the football field.

 

Executive Session

Motion by Bob Bamberg at 8:00 p.m., to go into executive session to discuss personnel, seconded by Gerlach and carried.  Declared out of executive session at 8:24 p.m. by the board president. 

 

Adjourn

There being no further business, at 8:25 p.m. motion by Bob Bamberg to adjourn.  Seconded by Nicole Bamberg and carried.  The next regular meeting will be held on Monday, December 9, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. in Classroom A of the high school.
