UNAPPROVED MINUTES OF OFFICIAL PROCEEDINGS

REGULAR MEETING – OCTOBER 13, 2008 – 7:33 P.M. – CLASSROOM “A”

 

The Regular Meeting of the Corsica Board of Education was held on Monday, October 13, 2008 at 7:33 p.m. in Classroom of the high school.

 

Members Present:  Don Oakland, President;  Jeremy Wright, Bob Bamberg, Rita Rexwinkel, Jason Lagge, Nicole Bamberg.

 

Members Absent:  Garry Bultje

 

Guest Present:  Kris VanZee, Lowell Bye, Leroy Blom and Dave Holstein

 

Officers Present:  Vern DeGeest, Superintendent; Scott Muckey, Secondary Principal; and Merna Bye, Business Manager

 

President Oakland called the meeting to order at 7:33 p.m. and a quorum was established.

 

Agenda

Motion by Rexwinkel seconded by Lagge to approve the agenda with the additions as presented.  Carried.

 

Approval of Minutes

Motion by Lagge seconded by Rexwinkel to approve the September 8, 2008 Regular Meeting Minutes.  Carried.

 

Approval of Financial Statement

Motion by Bamberg seconded by Lagge to approve the September 2008 Financial Statement.  Carried.

 

September 2008 Trust and Agency Report

Motion by Rexwinkel seconded by Nicole Bamberg to approve the September 2008 Trust and Agency Report with a beginning balance of $12,339.28 disbursements of $2,696.98 receipts of $8,481.00 for an ending balance of $18,123.30.  Carried.

 

Approval of Bills

Motion by Bob Bamberg seconded by Rexwinkel to approve the October 2008 listing of bills as presented.  Carried.

 

September 2008 Mid-Central Co-op Minutes

Motion by Lagge seconded by Nicole Bamberg to approve the September 2008 Mid-Central Co-op minutes.  Carried.

 

Farmers Alliance Representation

Leroy Blom and Dave Holstein, representing Farmers Alliance/United Energy met with the board in regards to the fuel oil bid submitted in July 2008 for heating fuel.  After discussion, the boards decision is to have local vendors only contacted on an as need basis and then refer those quotes to the building committee.

Soccer

SDHSAA boys and girls soccer will become a sanctioned sport beginning with the 2010-2011 school year.  Some discussion was held by the board with no action taken at this time.

 

Complaint Policy for Federal Programs

By fiscal year end 2009, each school is required to have a Complaint Policy in place for homeless students.   Motion by Wright seconded by Lagge to approve the policy as prepared by the SD Department of Education.  Carried.

 

Experience Works Worker

Motion by Wright seconded by Nicole Bamberg to allow Betty Powell for twenty hours per week maximum to work in the kitchen and help with custodial duties.   This program is thought Experience Works from Mitchell and  the only responsibility to the district would be a criminal background check.  Motion carried.

 

Others

Other items discussed were distant courses, District Profile, legislative meetings, on-site accreditation review, and appreciation shown to the performance of the Armour/Corsica Bands.
